 Director and head of a Division of the World Trade Organization, responsible for two major WTO agreements, the Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) and the Government Procurement Agreement (GPA), and the coordination of WTO work on public health and access to medicines issues and COVID-19 pandemic response, as well as the issue of trade and competition policy; responsibilities covering legal, policy, outreach, dispute settlement, diplomatic, technical assistance, research, teaching and management aspects of these legal instruments and related policy issues 

 As Head of a Division responsible for implementation of two main WIPO programs (on Life Sciences and Public Policy, and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore), a wide range of policy, management, diplomatic, outreach and analytical responsibilities.

Australian National University: full range of academic responsibilities as a faculty member of a leading law school, including establishment of the  Australian Centre for Intellectual Property in Agriculture and a range of curriculum development, teaching, conference and research initiatives. 

Senior teaching posts at the University of Melbourne, American University Washington School of Law, Edinburgh University, and Queensland University of Technology.

Numerous teaching and program development roles in graduate and postgraduate settings in Europe, Asia, North America and Australia.

Central role in international, regional and national policy, diplomacy and law relating to international intellectual property, trade and related public policy issues

Program design and delivery in Asia and the Pacific region on a range of policy, legal, legislative, administrative and capacity building activities relating to the intellectual property system

Central role in the design, drafting and development of revised program and budget and management structure for the entire organization, and crafting new policy initiatives in the field of indigenous intellectual property rights, the environment, human rights and related policy questions
